I thought that this week we could provide you with a link to an easy to make facemask for these strange times that we are in. There is no reason why your face masks cannot be made of bright and funky fabrics to cheer each other up. On our website we have hundreds of lovely fabrics to choose from you just need to follow the guidelines below to:

• fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
• be secured with ties or ear loops
• include multiple layers of fabric
• allow for breathing without restriction
• be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape
• Individuals should be careful not to touch their eyes, nose, and mouth when removing their face covering and wash hands immediately after removing.

Why not use our 100% cotton fabric as this is a tighter weave fabric in the animal prints, spots, and the many floral prints that we have to choose from. Some customers are also choosing the cheaper alternative of polyester cotton fabric in lots of lovely prints but this is your personal choice. They are mostly made out of 3 layers so we have plenty of plain fabrics for the backing including wincyette which has been a popular choice. The non woven interfacing is an ideal choice for the filter inbetween the layers of fabric. Finally we have lots of different elastic in either round or a flat choice depending on which you prefer.

Malbers Fabrics are still open and sending out your orders every week, So why not keep yourself and your kids entertained this summer by doing some Felt Crafting using some of our A4 Felt Packs available in many colours in pre cut packs, or you could buy it Per Metre straight off the roll.

Felt Crafting can be fun and creative you could start by making a simple animal design to get into the swing of it.

Start by drawing free hand or tracing out your design using Tracing Paper.

Once you've drawn your design cut it out and mark around it onto the felt you have chosen for your creation using a Fabric Marking Pencil.

Now using some good quality Scissors you're ready to cut out the main body of your design as well as any extra bits you're going to be using later.

During the current situation many people are making their own face masks and here at Malbers Fabrics we have everything you need. We are still open for business, sending orders out monday to friday.
Our Cotton Poplin fabrics are ideal for face masks with plain tight weave and thin, smooth feel. The fact that they are also breathable makes them comfortable to wear. With a slight sheen it is a lovely fabric to work with and very easy care.
We have the perfect elastic in stock at the moment (code e26) which is 7mm wide and also why not line the face masks in a natural muslin fabric (code m1).

If you have finished last weeks project and want to work with something different, you could always have a go at making something beautiful and luxurious for yourself from our lovely selection of velvet fabrics. We sell 100% cotton velvet which is of beautiful quality in a lovely soft matte finish. It is non stretch and of a heavy weight.
The colours are very rich in red, black, bottle, royal, and wine.
It is an ideal fabric for home interiors, dressmaking, jackets and skirts, even curtains.
We recommend dry cleaning for this product.
In our online fabric store we also have crushed velvet which is 150cms wide also in rich colours, this is a very soft flowing fabric and also crease resistant making it easy to work with.

Here at malbersfabrics.co.uk we have a lovely selection of Linens. There is Irish Linen which is spun and woven in Ireland from 100% linen yarns. It has a natural beauty of it's own. Choose from a lovely natural colour of beige and a cream Irish linen. Linen is perfect for making gorgeous cushions, seat covers, hand printing your own design onto it, or for lots of home furnishings and even for strong and natural bags to replace plastic.
Then we have lots of other linens to choose from which are very strong and absorbent which makes then cool in the summer and warm in the winter. These are made from the fibres of the flax plant. Again we have white's, cream's, oatmeal through to black.
We recommend dry cleaning for linen fabrics.

Now that spring is in the air, we have some gorgeous 100% cotton poplin fabrics that are ideal for that little summer dress you've been dreaming of for your holidays. It also makes lovely bunting for weddings or that special party in the garden. If home decorations are your thing these fabrics are perfect for picture window curtains or covering a household item. These poplin fabrics are excellent quality and very reasonably priced. Take a look at cf27 which is a lovely bee pattern in a navy blue with striking yellow bees also cp4 which is a flamingo fabric and very much on trend at the moment. If you fancy something floral we have lots of vintage prints have a browse at cf2 sky, cf1 pink and cf11 white and I am sure you will be inspired. These cottons are very crease resistant, easy to work with and the colours are vibrant.

Riley Blake Fabrics are now stocked at Malbers Fabrics online store.
Riley Blake fabrics were founded in 2008 from a Utah based fabric design company.
They are a versitile, fun, modern design which are a joy to work with. A fabric very popular with quilters. The different colour palettes offering a fresh, vibrant finish. These fabrics are also a popular choice for dressmaking and are lovely for home decor. The 100% cotton is of a great quality which is delightful to work with. The colours are bright and vivid. We have Wildflower Boutique in 2 different designs and 2 colours in each. The first design comes in Navy or Teal and the second design comes in Green or Teal. They are best washed cold and tumbled dried on low. Please take a look as I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

In keeping with last weeks blog on the lace theme, we have a beautiful range of embroidered tulle lace by the metre in 12 different stunning colours to compliment any evening or wedding outfit. They are double scalloped and some are 107cms wide and others are 132cms wide. It is non stretch and made of a polyester viscose mix.
We also have a lovely cream stretch lace which is ideal if you need the fabric to stretch a little and it is also beautifully soft and drapey.
If you prefer ivory, perhaps for a wedding dress, there is a top quality John Kaldor lace which has an elegant vintage look.

With a large range of lace trimmings on our website we are sure there's something for every project. One of our big favourites is the beautiful guipure lace in lots of different designs, widths and colours.
Have a look at the flat white guipure lace 75mm wide. This lace is very popular for trimming shorts, dresses and skirts. The black narrow lace with daisies is a versitile lace which can be sewn or glued onto your craft project.
We also stock a black vintage guipure lace 55mm wide, a white milky yarn lace and an African embroidered French lace which is 40mm deep.

We have some new John Kaldor stretch jersey fabric in stock. 
John Kaldor fabrics are top quality. The jersey has a beautiful soft stretch with a good weight. It has a lovely drape which is ideal for sewing dresses, skirts and tops. We have three lovely colours available, damson, lilac and pink.
Remember always use a machine needle for jersy fabric which we also have in our haberdashery section, along with elastics, threads, scissors and trimmings.
Maybe now is the time to start thinking about that little spring number you have in mind.
Wash at 30 degrees, do not tumble dry and use a cool iron.

We have durable and very strong fabrics such as Dralon that are suitable for covering chairs, bar stools, foot stools, cushions and would make lovely roman blinds. If you need them to be fire retardant it would need treating to british safety standards maybe with a fire retardant spray. We have lots of colours and patterns to choose from. A Burns Night supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns (25 January 1759 – 21 July 1796)
The suppers are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January.
If you are planning to impress your guests with the perfect setting for your Haggis, Neeps & Tatties we have some traditional tartan ribbons and fabrics for you to choose from.
