What's Poplin got to do with it... Try saying that without Singing it...

  • Cotton Poplin has been around longer than most people would guess originating in the 15th century the actual word Poplin derives from the word Papelaine it was originally made in Avignon France and originally referred to a Fabric with a Silk Warp and a Wool Weft.
  • Today Poplin refers to a wide variety of Materials including Cotton, Silk, Polyester and Lycra. The Cotton Poplin we stock at Malbers Fabrics has as you may expect a crisp, silky and luxurious surface this finish is created by the weave of the fabric having very fine horizontal 'ribs'

So what is the difference between Cotton Poplin and Cotton?

  • Cotton is the basic fibre and Poplin is a weaving technique so Cotton is the fabric while Poplin is the structure of the fabric. Together the fabric being Cotton and the Weaving technique being Poplin gives us what we know today as Cotton Poplin.
